Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the State Officers Compensation Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Phyllis Browne of DeWitt, Gerald Hildenbrand of Plainwell, Dan DeGrow of Burtchville and Osama Siblani of West Bloomfield to the State Officers Compensation Commission.

The SOCC is a seven-person board responsible for recommending changes to the salaries and expense allowances of the Attorney General, Secretary of State, Justices of the Michigan Supreme Court, members of the Legislature, Lieutenant Governor and Governor.

"The experience and knowledge these individuals possess will be a great asset to this commission," Snyder said.

Browne is a communications manager of public policy and social mission for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She previously served as communications director for the Michigan House of Representatives Republican Communications Office. Browne holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Michigan. She will fill a vacancy.

Hildenbrand is an environmental protection specialist for the United Stated Department of Defense. He served as a traffic management officer for the Michigan Air National Guard, a property disposal specialist in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a firefighter. Hildenbrand studied fire science at Kellogg Community College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He will replace Mary Shields.

DeGrow recently retired as superintendent of schools from St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency. He previously served as a partner at Fletcher & DeGrow and was the state senator representing the 27th District. DeGrow holds an associate degree from St. Clair County Community College, a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, and a juris doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. He will replace Hassan Jaber.

Siblani has been publishing The Arab American News for 33 years. He previously served as vice president for the import-export firm Energy International, Inc. and helped found the Congress of Arab American Organizations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit Mercy. He will replace Rodney Alberts.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring Jan. 1, 2022.
