LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of Dennis Vander Kooi of Allegan to the Michigan Blueberry Commission.
The Michigan Blueberry Commission was developed to improve the economic position and competitiveness of the Michigan blueberry industry by supporting research, education and promotion programs. The goal for the commission is to keep Michigan’s blueberry industry on the cutting edge of new technology as well as implement new research that keeps Michigan’s blueberry farmers economically viable in the world market moving forward. The Michigan Blueberry Commission emphasizes advancements in blueberry research, information delivery and Michigan industry-wide collaboration.
“I thank Dennis for his continued support to modernizing and sustaining Michigan’s blueberry industry,” said Snyder.
Vander Kooi is part owner and president of Woodland Enterprises, Inc., a fourth-generation farm growing more than 140 acres of blueberries. Vander Kooi is also part owner and founding member of four existing companies within the blueberry industry and is a member of the North American Blueberry Council. He attended Davenport University.
Vander Kooi will serve a three-year term to expire Dec. 31, 2020. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
