Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointment to the State Historic Preservation Review Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Janet Kreger of Ann Arbor and the reappointment of Rhonda Baker of Caledonia to the State Historic Preservation Review Board. Brian Rebain also is being appointed chair.
The nine-member board reviews and approves National Register of Historic Places nominations prior to their submission to the Keeper of the National Register and provides general advice, guidance and professional recommendations to the State Historic Preservation Office on matters related to historic preservation.
“I thank these individuals for their dedication to preserving Michigan’s historic places,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Kreger volunteers full-time for the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, which she helped found in 1981. Her professional career in historic preservation included serving 12 years at the State Historic Preservation Office and as an adjunct professor in the Historic Preservation Program at Eastern Michigan University. She retired in 2011 as director of major and planned gifts for Michigan State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in American history from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in historic preservation from Columbia University. She will represent architectural history and replace Theodore Ligibel.
Reappointment:
Baker is a historic preservation specialist for the city of Grand Rapids, where she facilitates, coordinates and advocates historic preservation activities within the city. Previously, she worked as the historic preservation director and historic preservation assistant for the city of South Bend, Indiana and St. Joseph County, Michigan. She is a member of the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions, the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Grand Rapids City’s Design Team. Baker holds a bachelor’s degree in public history from Western Michigan University. She will continue to represent historic preservation.
Kreger and Baker will serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2021. Rebain will serve as chair at the pleasure of the governor.
