Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the Pipeline Safety Advisory Board

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Anthony (Tony) England of Ypsilanti to the Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board.
Housed within the Department of Environmental Quality, the temporary board was established to advise and assist in the implementation of matters relating to hazardous liquid and gas pipeline safety, routing, construction, operation and maintenance and to provide recommendations for statutory, contractual or procedural changes to improve the safety of pipelines in this state.
“I thank Tony for his dedication to keeping Michiganders safe through the maintenance and regulation of Michigan pipelines,” Snyder said.
England is the dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan Dearborn. England served as deputy chief of the Office of Geochemistry and Geophysics for the U.S. Geological Survey and as a senior scientist astronaut for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration before becoming a professor of at the University of Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in earth sciences, a master’s degree in geology and geophysics and a Ph.D. in geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He will represent public universities and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Guy Meadows.
England will serve the remainder of a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018.
