Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Advisory Council on Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of Jill Gaus of Jackson, Elizabeth Bystrycki of Otsego, and Katlyn (KT) Maviglia of Dundee to the Advisory Council on Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the 13-member council advises the department on matters pertaining to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing persons. A minimum of seven members must be deaf or hard of hearing.
"I thank this group for their continued commitment to the deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing community,” Snyder said.
Gaus is a consultant with DB Central, providing services for children and youth who are deafblind, and also has experience as a licensed practical nurse. She is an instructor at Lansing Community College and formerly taught at Michigan State University. She will continue to represent deaf or hard of hearing persons.
Bystrycki is a counselor at the Community for the Hearing Impaired and a past chairwoman of the Michigan Deaf Association. She studied at Gallaudet University and Kalamazoo Community College. She will continue to represent deaf or hard of hearing persons.
Maviglia was crowned Miss Michigan in June 2014. She is the founder and president of the KT Maviglia Foundation for Hearing Disabilities and the co-author of a legislative bill which aims to improve services and insurance coverage for children with hearing loss. She holds a bachelor’s degree in dance performance from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University College of Business. She will continue to represent deaf or hard of hearing persons.
Members will serve three-year terms expiring Jan. 18, 2021.
