Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments, reappointment to the Michigan Task Force on Physician's Assistants

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Adam Carlson of Muskegon, Heather Klopp of Grand Ledge and Ali Safiedine of Southfield, as well as the reappointment of Susan Laham of Grand Rapids to the Michigan Task Force on Physician’s Assistants.
The 13-member task force, housed in the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, oversees nearly 3,300 physician's assistants throughout Michigan and determines and approves their qualifications.
"I thank this group for their commitment to overseeing Michigan Physician Assistants," Snyder said.
Appointments:
Carlson is a financial advisor for Edward Jones and previously taught world history for Fruitport Community Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies and English from Grand Valley State University. He will represent the general public and replaces Pamela Gnodtke.
Klopp is an emergency medicine physician assistant for Emergency Medical Associates in East Lansing and a urology physician assistant for the Lansing Institute of Urology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Lyman Briggs biology from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Detroit Mercy. She will represent physician’s assistants and replaces John Lopes.
Safiedine is the CEO of NEMO Health, LLC, director of Michigan Foot & Ankle Specialist, P.C., and a current member and previous president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association. He was appointed to the Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in 2017. Safiedine holds a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University, a doctorate in podiatric medicine from Barry University, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. He will represent the Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and replaces Vicki Anton Athens.
Reappointment:
Laham is a physician’s assistant for the pediatric orthopedic department at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where she also serves as director of the Clubfoot Program. She previously served as a physician’s assistant for Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. Laham holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Valparaiso University and a master’s degree in medicine focusing in physician assistant studies from Western Michigan University. She will continue to represent physician’s assistants.
Carlson, Safiedine and Laham will serve four-year terms expiring Dec.31, 2021. Klopp will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
