LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Shereen Tabrizi of Okemos to the Michigan Board of Medicine.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the board oversees the practice of medicine and serves as the state's licensing board. It includes 19 members: 10 doctors, one physician's assistant, and eight public members.
“I thank Shereen for serving on this board, and I am confident her medical experience will be an asset to the board," Snyder said.
Tabrizi recently retired as an education consultant manager for the special populations unit within the Michigan Department of Education, where she managed the Homeless Education McKinney-Vento program. She previously served as a director of assessment, evaluation, and compensatory education for Dearborn Public Schools. Tabrizi holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Haifa, a master’s degree in bilingual education and special education, and a Ph.D. in special education and developmental psychology from Wayne State University. She will represent the general public and replace Luis Avila.
Tabrizi will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2021. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
