LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Adi Sathi of Novi, Hoa Dinh of Shelby Township, Mi Kyung Dong of Northville, Kavy Lenon of West Olive, as well as the reappointment of Ryan Rosario of Rochester Hills to the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission.
The 21-member commission, housed in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, advances the full and equal participation of Asian Pacific Americans in Michigan.
“I am confident these diverse and experienced appointees will work hard to ensure a stronger and better Michigan for all citizens," Snyder said.
Appointments:
Sathi is the National Director of Asian Pacific American Engagement at the Republican National Committee. He also currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Young Republican National Federation. Previously, he was a 2016-17 APAICS Legislative Fellow in the Office of U.S. Sen. Orrin G. Hatch and was also elected statewide to serve as Vice Chair of the Michigan Republican Party from 2015 to 2017. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master of social work from the University of Michigan. He will replace Roland Hwang.
Dinh is an engineering supervisor for Ford Motor Company and is the president of the Vietnamese American Association of Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oakland University, a master’s degree in engineering management from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and attended the Ford Design Institute. He will replace Constance Dang.
Dong retired as the COO of miRcore and chief scientific advisor of Global Strategic Connections, LLC. She is very involved in local community groups and organizations and taught 10th grade at a Korean school. Dong holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Sun Kyun Kawn University, Seoul, Korea, and a master’s degree in biochemistry from Wayne State University. She will replace Guozhen Lu.
Lenon is a senior supplier diversity manager for Herman Miller Inc. and has served as a business analyst in the purchasing department for Haworth. She is president of the Laotian American Association, a committee member of Wester Michigan Asian American Association and serves as the co-founder and co-chair of the Grand Rapids Asian Festival. Lenon attended Sacramento City College for business management and Davenport University for computer information systems. She will replace Anand Kumar.
Reappointment:
Rosario is an agency owner with State Farm Insurance, where he has more than 20 years of experience. He is the immediate president of the Filipino American Community Council of Michigan, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Michigan, and a member of the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce. Rosario holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Detroit.
Dong will serve a term expiring Nov. 30, 2019, Lenon will serve a term expiring Nov. 30, 2020 and Dinh, Rosario and Sathi will serve terms expiring Nov. 30, 2021.
