LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Michael Dunn of Troy and Laurie Niemer of Harrison Township to the Michigan Board of Respiratory Care.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 11-member board assists in overseeing the licensure requirements and standards for Michigan's respiratory therapists.
“I thank Michael and Laurie for their commitment to upholding the licensing requirement of respiratory therapists in Michigan," said Snyder.
Dunn is the chief of medicine for Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, a senior staff physician in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine for Henry Ford Medical Group in Detroit, and an assistant clinical professor of medicine for Wayne State University School of Medicine. He also serves as an advising physician to the Michigan Society for Respiratory Care. Dunn holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Marquette University, a medical degree from the New York Medical College, and a master’s degree in health care administration from Central Michigan University. He will represent medical directors and replace Richard Tooker.
Niemer is a licensed respiratory therapist and on faculty as a clinical coordinator for the respiratory therapy program at Macomb Community College. She previously served as adjunct faculty for the respiratory therapy program at Oakland Community College, and as a respiratory therapist for St. Johns Providence Health System. Niemer holds an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy from Macomb County Community College and Carrington College, respectively, as well as a master’s degree in education and leadership from Northeastern University. She will represent respiratory therapists and replace Cheryl Sherburn.
Dunn will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2019, and Niemer will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2021.Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
