LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Katheryn Kelly of Saginaw and Marian Matyn of Clare, as well as the reappointment of Cynthia Ghering of East Lansing to the State Historical Records Advisory Board.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the seven-member board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and National Historical Publications and Records Commission-funded projects in the state.
“I thank these individuals for working to preserve Michigan’s great history for future generations,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Kelly is the Saginaw County register of deeds. She previously served as a Saginaw County commissioner. She currently is on the board of directors for the Saginaw Agricultural Association and the Saginaw Valley Zoological Society. Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in international studies and political science from Michigan State University. She will replace Nicole Garrett.
Matyn is an archivist and associate professor for the Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in information and library studies from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in history from Central Michigan University. She will replace Tawny Nelb.
Reappointments:
Ghering is the director of the university archives and historical collections at Michigan State University. She previously served as an adjunct faculty instructor for the University of Michigan School of Information and as the assistant director of Collections and Curatorial Services for the Ohio Historical Society. Ghering holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in information, archives and records management from the University of Michigan.
Kelly will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2020. Matyn will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2021. Ghering will continue to serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2020.
