LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Cara Poland of Alto to the Michigan Board of Medicine.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 19-member board oversees the practice of medicine and serves as the state's licensing board. It is composed of 10 doctors, one physician's assistant and eight public members.
“I thank Cara for her dedication to this board," Snyder said. “The work she and the board do will keep the medical field safe and professional.”
Poland is a physician specializing in addiction medicine for Spectrum Health Center for Integrative Medicine in Grand Rapids and is an assistant professor of internal medicine and psychiatry at Michigan State University. She also serves as president of the Michigan Society of Addiction Medicine and is a leading expert on substance use disorders. She will represent physicians and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Lisa Oca.
Poland will serve the remainder of a four-year term to expire Dec. 31, 2021. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
