LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Felix Valbuena Jr. of Bloomfield Hills and the reappointments of Lisa Kravitz of Farmington Hills and Jeremy Marra of Saline to the Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers.
Housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 11-member board assists in overseeing the licensure and practice of athletic trainers.
“I thank these individuals for their willingness to serve on this board,” Snyder said. “Their various experiences and backgrounds give me confidence they will help to maintain and improve the athletic training field.”
Appointment:
Valbuena is a licensed physician and the CEO of Community Health and Social Services Center. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Notre Dame and a medical degree from Universidad El Bosque in Bogotá, Colombia. He will represent physicians and replace Steven Vance.
Reappointments:
Kravitz serves as the director of human resources at the Detroit Police Athletic League, a nonprofit organization that partners with volunteers and the Detroit Police Department to provide a safe space for children to grow through athletic, academic and leadership development programs. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University and will continue to represent the general public.
Marra is a senior associate athletic trainer for University of Michigan Athletics and previously served as an athletic training service provider for the United States Olympic Committee in Lake Placid, New York. He serves on the Special Olympics Michigan Medical Advisory Committee and Games Committee and is a health and safety instructor for the American Red Cross. He holds a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and sports medicine from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in kinesiology from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent athletic trainers.
Valbuena will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring June 30, 2021. Kravitz and Marra will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2022. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
