LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Joanna Kica of Lansing to the Child Lead Exposure Elimination Commission.
The 21-member commission is housed within the Department of Health and Human Services and acts in an advisory capacity to the Governor and the director of the department. It also coordinates and collaborates with all levels of government and stakeholders regarding programs and policies related to the elimination of childhood lead exposure.
“Joanna’s experience working on research involving lead exposure and its affects gives me confidence she will bring great insight to this commission,” Snyder said.
Kica is a research assistant III for the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Michigan State University, where she manages and coordinates research programs on occupational and environmental health, including the effects of lead exposure. She is a member of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the Workers’ Compensation Research Group. She also serves as the state of Michigan coordinator for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Adult Blood Lead Epidemiology and Surveillance (ABLES) Program. Kica holds a master’s degree in public administration from Grand Valley State University and will represent the general public and replace Jeffrey Harthun.
Kica will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 15, 2021.
