Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Public Health Advisory Council

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Eric Adelman of Farmington Hills, Joneigh Khaldun of Canton, Annette Mercatante of Goodells, and Jamie Zaniewski of Howell to the Public Health Advisory Council.
The 20-member council was created to develop an action plan for implementing the recommendations of the Public Health Advisory Commission. It also is tasked with providing advice about emerging issues in public health, monitoring the effectiveness of Michigan’s public health response system, and reviewing multiagency efforts to support collaboration and a unified approach on public health experts.
"This council is vital in ensuring Michigan residents remain safe and healthy,” Snyder said. “I thank these individuals for remaining devoted to Michiganders and their health.”
Adelman is executive director of Kadima Mental Health Services. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Judaic studies from George Washington University and a master’s degree in public administration from Wayne State University. He will continue to represent the general public.
Khaldun is the director and health officer of the Detroit Health Department and a staff physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in public health from George Washington School of Public Health and Health Services, and a medical degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She will continue to represent local public health officials.
Mercatante is the medical health officer for the St. Clair County Health Department and volunteers for the People’s Clinic for Better Health in Port Huron. She holds a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in public health from the University of Massachusetts, and a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She will continue to represent physicians.
Zaniewski is the government policy advisor for Dykema and previously served as a senior policy advisor for health care and insurance in the Executive Office of Governor Snyder. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in public policy from Pepperdine University. She will continue to represent the general public.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring Nov. 1, 2022.
