New in 2026: Camper Choice Periods for Trailblazers (9-13 years old)
At Camp Explore, we believe in allowing campers to choose their adventures. That’s why we’ve added two Camper Choice periods to each camp day for our Trailblazers.
Camper Choice is an opportunity for campers to select the Adventure Zones they’d like to discover in their camp experience, from Arts, Fishing, Games and Sports, Nature Explorations, or Target Sports in the OAC archery range. Campers stick with their selected adventures throughout the camp week, allowing them to build skills and confidence.
There’s more! When your camper learns a new skill in their choice period, they’ll receive an Adventure Zone Award at the afternoon assembly.
How does it work? During the registration process, you’ll be prompted to select your camper’s top picks for Camper Choice. Not sure which to pick? We have a Camp Sampler option, which allows campers to rotate among the zones. Camper Choice occurs twice a day, every day. Camper Choice schedules are set on a first-come, first-served basis, determined by the safety limits of each activity. We will make every effort to give each camper their top two choices.

We’re surrounded by stars! Campers will explore the beauty of the night sky and the best places in Michigan for stargazing. This week will also help campers discover their inner star power through theatre games and skits. Field trip: TBD.
Calling all anglers for an exciting fishing adventure! Whether your camper is a novice or an expert, this week of camp will be loaded with fishy fun and fantastic information: casting to tackle crafting, stopping aquatic invasive species and ethical angling, plus plenty of time fishing along the beautiful Detroit River. Field trip: TBD.
Camp Explore is teaming up with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy for an unforgettable week of camp! Campers will explore, hike and play along the Detroit Riverwalk – named the best in the nation three years in a row! – and take a field trip to Ralph C. Wilson Park.
We all love Michigan – it rocks! In this week of camp, we'll explore everything that makes our state so great, from the bedrock up to the soaring treetops. Campers will enjoy a field trip at DYNO Detroit Climbing in Detroit’s Eastern Market.
