COVID-19 Announcement

The U.S. Department of Education Announces Final Extension of COVID-19 Emergency Flexibilities to Defaulted Loans in the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program

  • Collection activity will be paused through May 1, 2022
  • Interest rates will temporarily be set at 0% and will retroactively apply back to March 13, 2020
  • Voluntary payments can be requested to be refunded
  • Tax refunds offset over the past year will be automatically refunded
  • Wages garnished over the past year will be automatically refunded
  • Loans that defaulted since March 13, 2020 will be returned to good standing and assigned to the Department of Education
