VFW Post 2326 Celebrates Facility Improvements Through DMVA Grant

VFW Post 2326 in Grand Haven is celebrating its newly updated facility thanks to a Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) Veterans Nonprofit Improvement Grant. The grant awarded more than $3.7 million to veteran service organizations across Michigan to improve facilities and strengthen the organizations that serve veterans.

VFW Post 2326 was one of 22 nonprofit organizations in Michigan to receive funding, securing more than $200,000 for improvements. The funds supported a new high-efficiency HVAC system, new gutters, a renovated cooler system, and improvements to the patio and pavilion. Michael Baauw, post commander, Navy veteran and Veterans Service Manager at VFW Post 2326, hopes the upgrades will attract more visitors and encourage greater veteran membership in the Grand Haven area.

“Having an updated space gives us more opportunities to bring veterans and community members together,” Baauw said. “These improvements help us create a welcoming environment where veterans can connect, participate in events and continue supporting one another.”

The Veterans Nonprofit Improvement Grant reflects Michigan’s commitment to supporting organizations that provide fellowship, advocacy and assistance to veterans in communities across the state. Michigan DMVA Program Manager Marie Douville expressed appreciation for the role veteran service organizations play in their communities, stating, “These grants help ensure our veteran service organizations can continue serving as welcoming, accessible spaces for veterans and their families.” She describes the grants as a pivotal investment in veteran service organizations, emphasizing their importance to the veterans the DMVA serves. “The organizations receiving these awards play an important role in supporting veterans at the local level, and these facility improvements will help them continue their missions for years to come.”

With renovations complete, VFW Post 2326 looks toward a future of expanded community engagement and continued service to local veterans. The improved indoor and outdoor spaces provide more opportunities to welcome visitors, host events and strengthen connections within the Grand Haven community.
