DMVA Branches

The Michigan DMVA resides in the State of Michigan's Executive Branch. The Department Director sits on the Governor's Cabinet and serves as The Adjutant General. The DMVA consists of State Operations, Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH), Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA), Michigan Air National Guard (MIANG) and Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG).

Army National Guard

Army National Guard

The Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) is a component of the Michigan’s DMVA team, serving in the State and Governor of Michigan through the Director of the DMVA. The MIARNG provides trained, combat-capable forces in support of the National Military Strategy while simultaneously providing Defense support of Civil Authorities. Providing emergency response to the State is a core function of the MIARNG and the department as a whole.

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) is the central coordinating agency, providing support, care, advocacy and service to veterans and their families.  The agency works to identify and break down barriers veterans face in employment, education, health care and quality of life, making Michigan a great place for veterans and their families to call home.

Michigan Veterans Homes

Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) is the entity that provides day-to-day operational oversight of the state’s veteran homes on behalf of the Michigan Veterans Facility Authority (MVFA) and is a branch of the DMVA. MVH strives to ensure that quality long-term care is provided to the veterans and their eligible family members that live within the Homes. High quality care for this phase of life is central to the “member for life” concept that DMVA embraces. The MVH operates the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids (MVHGR), the Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MVHDJJ) in Marquette and the new Michigan Veteran Homes at Chesterfield Township (MVHCT).

State Operations

State Operations provides operational support for the DMVA to support strategic goals and initiatives in a fiscally responsible way. The DMVA State Operations team aligns procurement, funding, and complex data structures to provide sustainable and consistent support throughout the enterprise. State Operations consists of Budget, Procurement, Information Management, and Youth Challenge.
