CROWN: April 2021 - Letter from the Director

Team:

Last week, Shelia shared with you the strategic plan for the department, which I previewed in our meeting back in February. I have now begun implementing many of the improvements outlined in the plan and that process will continue in the months ahead.

It is important to remember that much of the strategic plan was directly influenced by your responses to last year's employee survey -- your candid assessment of our operations and structure and recommendations for changes that you felt could boost our effectiveness and improve morale.

It is human nature that even when we know change is necessary, it can be unsettling. I encourage everyone to embrace the changes already underway and those on the horizon. Give yourself and your colleagues time to get used to new ways of working, knowing the plan is designed to make our work more effective and fulfilling. And remember, as I have said many times, if a change doesn't work, we will go in a different direction.

I also want to take a minute to encourage everyone to take part in MDCR Monthly Connect under the direction of Deputy Director Mary Engelman. These sessions give us an opportunity to connect with our colleagues in a more informal way while exploring different tools to help us manage the challenges and stress of these difficult times.

Lastly, please join me in recognizing Demetrius Hunter for his recent promotion to Civil Rights Manager in the Lansing Enforcement Unit. Congratulations, Demetrius!
