CROWN: April 2021 - DODDBHH Team Members Share Love of Reading with Local Students

To celebrate National Reading Month, Alayna Lail and Annie Urasky joined three different deaf and hard of hearing classrooms to provide a virtual storytelling session in ASL to motivate students to read every day. This marks the second year the DODDBHH team has participated in these monthly reading events. As with most of MDCR's events, all sessions have been held virtually due to the pandemic.

The classrooms ranged from Pre-K to 6th grade. The books read by Alayna were related to self-advocacy topics, such as how to ask for help and how to support others. Pre-K students read "The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle, while K-3rd grade students read "Mel Fell" by Corey R. Tabor, and 1st-6th grade students read "Just Ask" by Sonia Sotomayor. The students were elated to see ASL stories and share their experiences with Alayna!
