MDCR to Celebrate Deaf History Month with Social Media Campaign
March 2021
Deaf History Month is almost here! It is a 34-day long celebration of the history and contributions the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing communities have made to American society and culture.
Typically, monthly commemorations of this type begin on the first day of the month and end on the last. Not so with Deaf History Month. Jeannette Johnson (JJ) explains:
"Deaf History Month starts on March 13, which is the last day of the "Deaf President Now" protests which led to the selection of the first Deaf president of Gallaudet University. April 15 is the founding of the first-ever deaf school in America. These are both very significant dates in Deaf history," said JJ.
The department will launch a social media campaign featuring Deaf History Month starting on March 13 and ending on April 15. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to enjoy a daily dose of Deaf history!
