iGaming, sports betting operators report $224.02M in August revenue

DETROIT, Sept. 17, 2024 — Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $224.02 million total internet gaming (iGaming) gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts in August. Gross receipts increased 1.4% compared to last month.

Monthly Gross Receipts
August iGaming gross receipts totaled $196.66 million and gross sports betting receipts totaled $27.36 million. In July, iGaming gross receipts were $191.44 million and gross sports betting receipts were $29.42 million.

Monthly Adjusted Gross Receipts
Combined total iGaming and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for August were $193.2 million, including $176.9 million from iGaming and $16.3 million from internet sports betting — representing an iGaming increase of 2.7% and a sports betting decrease of 5.2% when compared to last month. Compared to August 2023, iGaming AGR was up by 28.9% and sports betting was up by 2.8%.

Monthly Handle
Total August internet sports betting handle of $280.1 million was up by 11.9% from the $250.2 million handle recorded in July 2024.

Monthly State Taxes/Payments
The operators reported submitting $37.77 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan during August, of which:
  • iGaming taxes and fees = $36.9 million
  • Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $874,501

Monthly City of Detroit Taxes/Payments
The three Detroit casinos reported paying the City of Detroit $9.39 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees during August, of which:

  • iGaming taxes and fees = $9.1 million
  • Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $287,107

Monthly Tribal Operators’ Payments
Tribal operators reported making $4.6 million in payments to governing bodies in August.

As of August 2024, a total of 15 commercial and tribal operators have been authorized to launch iGaming and/or internet sports betting. Currently, 12 commercial and tribal operators offer internet sports betting, and 15 operators offer iGaming.
