Outdoor Adventure Center - Beyond Becoming an Outdoors Woman: Birding 101
Outdoor Adventure Center - Beyond Becoming an Outdoors Woman: Birding 101
Becoming an Outdoors Woman is a statewide, woman-only program that teaches outdoor skills such as hunting, fishing, backpacking, shooting sports, kayaking and many more outdoor recreation activities during a full weekend workshop. In addition to Michigan's traditional BOW winter and summer workshops, the program offers smaller-scale “Beyond BOW” workshops throughout the entire state. Beyond BOW workshops range from two to 12 hours and focus on training in and experiencing one or two outdoor skills.
Outdoor Adventure Center educator Natalie Cypher and Michigan Department of Natural Resources community engagement coordinator Aja Edwards are teaming up to offer Beyond BOW - Birding 101! We’ll begin with an indoor presentation that covers the basics of the bird identification process, places to go, binoculars and other equipment. Then we’ll hit the trail to practice our new skills while enjoying the birds of Belle Isle Park. Binoculars are available for loan during the program, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have them.
Note that this is an offsite program taking place at the Belle Isle Nature Center, located at 176 Lakeside Drive in Detroit.
Preregistration is required. Cost is $15 per person, which includes light refreshments and a birding book. A Recreation Passport is required to enter Belle Isle Park.
