The Lakeland Correctional Facility provides mainly dormitory-style housing containing 16 units which includes housing for geriatric prisoners.
The 16 housing units at the Lakeland Correctional Facility include two different rescue dog training programs. The greyhound program has been at the facility since late 2006 and will have 20 dogs for 10 weeks. The Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan has been at the facility since 2008 and will have 14 dogs for 10 weeks.
The facility has a separate Food Service Building, two schools and indoor activity areas.
Education programs include Employment Readiness (ER), Adult Basic Education and General Education Development preparation. Vocational training is available in the Food Service Technology Program.
Core Programming includes Violence Prevention Programming (VPP) High and Moderate, Thinking for a Change (T4C), BRIDGES (Domestic Violence Programming), and Advanced Substance Abuse Treatment (ASAT). Elective Programming includes Violence Support Groups, Cage your Rage and Chance for Life. Law Library and General Library services are available.
Religious activities are coordinated through the facilities Chaplin and offer a wider range of active religions.
Prisoners are provided on-site dental, medical and mental health services. Emergencies are referred to a local hospital and serious medical problems are treated at the Duane Water’s Hospital Health Care in Jackson..
The perimeter includes a double fence, electronic detection systems, rolls of razor-ribbon wire. A patrol road surrounds the perimeter of the facility and a vehicle responds to all detection system alarms.
