Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer

The Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency recognized the MDOC as a Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer, which is the highest level the MVAA awards. The MDOC is one of 30 employers in the state to be recognized as a Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer.

As a Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer, the department has completed several initiatives, including offering a veteran benefit package, differential pay, a specific veteran onboarding program and retention program, and much more. As a Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer, the department now has access to more resources to help attract veteran talent. Resources include nationwide advertising and monthly meetings with other Gold-Level employers to discuss best practices and initiatives and qualify all MDOC employees and their spouses and children with scholarship opportunities.

The Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency has also designated the Michigan Department of Corrections as a MI Veteran Connector. 

As a MI Veteran Connector, we partner with the MVAA to help Veterans self-identify as Veterans by promoting resources for benefits, suicide prevention, links to the VA and all other resources that can help our MDOC Veteran community. The Michigan Veteran Connector program recognizes health systems and community partners such as schools, churches, and employers that are committed to supporting the needs of service members, veterans, and military-connected families.
