Sandi Powell
Wellness Coordinator
Development and creativity have been the emphasis of my lifelong purpose and goals in serving others, whether assisting employees in private industry (non-profit, McDonald’s, auto industry), teaching and advising in higher education, or coming alongside you, my colleagues within the MDOC. As part of the Wellness Unit, it has been my sincere privilege to work with many of you to incorporate the exceptional ideas and passion we have as a corrections community for promoting a greater sense of overall holistic health and well-being – physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, work and more.
It is together we make a difference within the MDOC – noted especially when connecting with our Peer Supports and working as handler for our MDOC Response Pups, Handel and Franklin. Our Peer Supports and the Pups have demonstrated what it truly means to create pathways and connections as we come alongside to provide support within the MDOC.
Viewing life as an ongoing learning experience, I also believe it important to continue exploring new ideas related to work, personality, spirituality, and life-work balance, among others, and am looking for my next learning adventure. In the meantime, I am adding new hobbies and enjoy spending time with my family and grandson – who helps keep me up-to-date and relevant in today’s world.
