Sandi Powell

Wellness Coordinator

With many years serving employees in private industry, and helping students as an educator and advisor, Sandi enjoys merging her experiences into her work as a mental health specialist within the MDOC. She enjoys work that explores new ideas, is creative and focused on development. This includes working alongside employees and incorporating the many ideas we have as a corrections community. She believes we can work together to incorporate different ways to promote a sense of mental, emotional, and physical health and well-being.

Sandi also believes life is a learning experience. As a life-long learner, she enjoys exploring and researching ideas related to personality, spirituality, work, and life/work balance, among others. While last year she completed her Ph.D., she believes it really helps to spend time with her 15-year-old grandson who keeps her current and relevant with understanding today’s ways of thinking – at least from a kid’s perspective. In her free time, she loves hanging out with family and friends, taking road trips to new places, and especially working with our MDOC Wellness Dogs, Handel and Franklin.
