Victoria Sheridan

Wellness Coordinator

I am honored and privileged to work with talented colleagues of the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Wellness Unit. Many of my colleagues bring their own unique experiences, expertise, and education to the team, which greatly impacts the care provided to MDOC employees, their families, and retirees on a daily basis. In our work as a Wellness Unit, we strive in promoting a model of healthy living involving mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. This wellness model assists MDOC employees with their personal lives and professional careers.

Before earning my master’s degree in counseling and becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Michigan. I previously worked as a collegiate coach, which has allowed me to work with student-athletes, addressing both their mental and emotional needs. My stint working in community mental health has afforded me eccentric opportunities & experiences in my work with children, adolescents, at-risk youth, military (active & retired), and adults of all ages.

I have experience working in corrections both county and state side, having helped with the rehabilitation of both female and male offenders. I began my career with MDOC, as a Qualified Mental Health Progressional (QMHP), at Macomb Correctional Facility (MRF) in 2023. In working in the field of corrections, I have an appreciation for the women and men who serve in protecting Michigan communities. In having worked alongside with various correctional staff, I recognize their strengths, sacrifices, and have a sense of understanding of some of the challenges they face both on a micro and macro level of daily functioning.

In my work as a Wellness Coordinator, I plan to help strengthen the MDOC community by means of incorporating community initiatives, advocating and encouraging mental & wellness health, implementing research into programs & interventions, and assisting individuals with improving their quality of life.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family & friends, running, being a volunteer coach, bike rides, yoga, weightlifting, reading, traveling domestically & abroad, learning new things, trying out new sports, going to the movies, trying new restaurants, and motorcycle riding.
