The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is continuing to transition to a statewide contract for staff, visitor, and prisoner vending machine services at all correctional facilities.
This transition will allow for greater consistency in services across the state and ensure that every facility has vending services.
This transition will include adopting a new cashless vending card system for visitor and prisoner vending across all prisons. Existing visitor vending cards will remain valid but may not have new balances added when exhausted. New vending cards will become available for purchase as individual sites transition to the new vendor.
It is important that prisoners and visitors deplete their current vending cards prior to the scheduled transition date at their specific facility. Balance refunds will not be given, and balances from old vending cards will not be transferred to new vending cards.
While the MDOC recognizes that this transition will result in some short-term disruptions, having a single vending contractor serving the entire state will result in more consistent service and, most importantly, ensure that all facilities have vending services for staff and visitors.
