FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rodgers apprehended, back in MDOC custody
Johnny Rodgers, the prisoner who was mistakenly released by Oakland County Jail officials, was apprehended this afternoon and is back in the custody of the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Rodgers was arrested without incident at 4:58 p.m. as members of the MDOC’s absconder recovery unit, the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Detroit Police Department surrounded him on the west side of Detroit.
The prisoner will now be transported back to prison under MDOC supervision.
At 6:03 p.m. on Aug. 24, prisoner Rodgers (MDOC #968212) was released in error from the Oakland County Jail. Rodgers was in the custody of Oakland County while on a writ for a court appearance. Following the court appearance, he should have been returned to MDOC custody, but was instead released from the jail.
Rodgers, 25, is serving a seven to 15 year sentence for assault with intent to commit murder, armed robbery and felony firearms out of Wayne committed in 2014. The prisoner’s earliest release date is 7/29/2024.
The MDOC appreciates the assistance of the law enforcement professionals who worked throughout the day and night to track down this prisoner. The department also wishes to thank the public for its help in spreading the word about this incident.
