General
The Detroit Reentry Center is located on the east side of Detroit on 39 acres, off Ryan Road. It was formerly known as Ryan Correctional Facility. The facility is unique in Michigan because it houses three distinct populations- prisoners, probationers, and parolees have been returned from the community for alleged violations of parole conditions. The facility houses male prisoners committed to the Department who require long-term dialysis treatment, which is provided onsite.
The land was previously used by Daimler Chrysler AG to store automobiles. The facility contains buildings for housing, programs, food services, a health clinic, dialysis unit, administrative offices, warehouse storage and security. The prison has a small segregation unit and is separated from the surrounding area by a six-foot landscaped berm with evergreen and deciduous trees.
Programming
The programs offered at the Detroit Reentry Center are the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT), Advanced Substance Abuse Treatment (ASAT), Thinking for a Change (T4C), Bridges (domestic violence program), and Intensive Detention Reentry Program (IDRP). GED programming offered to prisoners, parolees and probationers. Health care is provided at the prison, or at the Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson or local hospitals in the event of emergencies.
