Records Requests

The Michigan Department of Corrections provides a variety of records to the public, law enforcement agencies, and previously incarcerated individuals.

Current Prisoner Records

  • Information on current prisoners can be located on the MDOC Offender Tracking System (OTIS), and includes prisoner name, age, location, sentencing information, and more: MDOC Offender Tracking System
  • For records related to current prisoners, parolees, and probationers that are not provided on OTIS, please email requests to: Corr_Records_Info@michigan.gov
  • Members of the Media or Press may request prisoner information from the MDOC Spokesperson by emailing Jenni Riehle at Riehlej2@Michigan.gov

Past Prisoner Records (up to 6 years post release)

  • MDOC retains records on prisoners, parolees, and probationers for 6 years post release. To request records, submit requests to the MDOC records retention unit at: MDOC-Records_Retention@michigan.gov

Prisoner Education Records

  • Past prisoners may request copies of their educational records such as GED certification, college degree, and skilled trades certification which they obtained while incarcerated by emailing: MDOC-Education-GeneralQuestions@michigan.gov

Historical Corrections Records

  • Some historical corrections records may have been retained by the State of Michigan for preservation purposes and may include documents, maps, photographs and film of correctional operations. For historical records requests, please contact the Archives of Michigan.

Freedom of Information Act Request

  • Institutional records are available to the public through the Freedom of Information Act. If you would like to submit a FOIA request, or if you have questions about FOIA, please send your requests to the address below or email the MDOC FOIA Coordinator: MDOC-FOIA@michigan.gov.
