July 19, 2023
Ceremony will highlight project to modernize facility for women service members
LANSING, Mich. — Michigan National Guard (MING) officials along with state elected leadership will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) Saginaw Armory at 1800 S Outer Dr., Saginaw, on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10 a.m.
The ceremony will highlight the work that is set to begin to modernize the MIARNG facility to better serve Michigan’s women soldiers including the addition of new shower and toilet facilities and a lactation room.
The Saginaw Armory is one of 33 facilities across Michigan that is targeted for modernization. At the time this facility was constructed in 1982, the structure and composition of the MIARNG force was primarily male and facilities, like restrooms and showers, were designed with that in mind. The total investment for this project is $4.0 million ($2.5 million federal/$1.5 million state).
Media are invited to attend the Thursday morning ceremony for a brief tour, remarks by MING officials and a groundbreaking photo opportunity and should plan to be in place no later than 9:45 a.m. To RSVP, please contact Michael Kroll at 517-285-9734 or krollm2@michigan.gov.
