The ADA Compliance Division is hosting four trainings in May 2021:

May 11, 2021 - ADA Title I, Title II & Title III: Q & A session with Robin Jones, Director of the Great Lakes ADA Centers. This is a follow-up to the training she provided on March 30, 2021.

May 18, 2021 - Cultural Competency Training on Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). The presenter will train participants on how to interact and service customers who have traumatic brain injuries. This presentation will give a broad overview of the fundamentals of acquired brain injury from a clinical perspective. It will also describe the types of deficits that can develop as a result of brain injury, and the impact of those deficits on daily function. In addition, it will give a broad perspective of what environmental provisions allow for an increase in independence and the importance of funding for these provisions.

Dr. Newton is a Clinical Director at Paradigm Catastrophic Care Management where she oversees the rehabilitation process of individuals with catastrophic, life changing injuries. She began her career as a case manager and mental health therapist and discovered that her true passion was working with individuals with brain injury. She spent 15 years at Rainbow Rehabilitation Centers here in Michigan, before joining Paradigm that allows Dr. Newton to work with brain injury survivors not only in Michigan, but all over the country. In addition to her clinical work, she was an adjunct professor of psychology at Baker College of Michigan for seven years.

May 19, 2021 - Coping with COVID-19: Mental Health for Persons with Disabilities and Other Vulnerable Populations. The presenters are:

May 25, 2021 - Accessible Meetings & Events Training - Kelley Frake, Compliance Analyst, MDCR ADA Compliance & Statewide Trainings Division will present this training. The Accessible Meetings and Events training for Title II ADA Coordinators will discuss the basics of making both in-person and virtual meetings accessible to persons with disabilities at the state level.

Please note: The MDCR Courageous Community Conversations: Building Bridges between Law Enforcement and Persons with Disabilities sessions have been postponed until September 2021.
