Skot Welch (I), Kentwood
Commissioner
Appointed 01/15/26; Term Expires 12/31/2029
Skot Welch is a visionary leader dedicated to the pursuit of systemic equity and the advancement of civil rights through the lens of economic and cultural transformation. As the Principal and Founder of Global Bridgebuilders (GBB), Skot has spent over 25 years moving beyond the surface of "diversity" to address the root causes of exclusion. He is the architect of the "Innovation Through Inclusion" framework, a mission-driven approach that proves true progress is only possible when every voice is empowered to lead.Tools for Accountability and Change
Skot believes that justice requires accountability. To that end, he created three proprietary tools designed to expose systemic gaps and build paths to equity: the Inclusion Systems Assessment (iSA), the Climate Bridge Survey (CBS), and the Belonging Survey. These assessments serve as a rigorous baseline for organizations to move from performative statements to measurable, transformative action.
Economic Empowerment as a Civil Right
Understanding that economic equity is a cornerstone of the civil rights movement, Skot is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of The New Community Transformation Fund, a $25M venture capital fund dedicated to closing the wealth gap by investing in entrepreneurs of color. His work extends globally as Founder and Co-Managing Partner of African Investment Holdings, where he focuses on sustainable economic development within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Voices for Healing and Belonging
A prolific author and advocate for reconciliation, Skot’s newest book, Mending Sunday: Embracing Differences in a Church Torn by Division, offers a courageous roadmap for healing in a polarized society. Through The Belonging Initiative, Skot is defining the next frontier of the movement—ensuring that inclusion isn't just about presence, but about the inherent right of every person to feel structurally and culturally safe.
Legacy of Leadership
Raised in a military family, Skot’s global perspective was forged in a commitment to service. He is the Founder and Immediate Past President of the Greater Michigan Chapter of the National Black MBA Association and the founder of The Mosaic Film Experience, a platform that empowers underrepresented youth to tell their own stories through the power of mobile filmmaking and media. Skot holds an M.M. in International Marketing and remains a steadfast advocate for the belief that true innovation is the byproduct of a just and inclusive society.
