Lt. Governor Calley to Outline New Law Ensuring Access for Persons with Disabilities and their Service Animals to Businesses, Public Facilities in Michigan

Lansing — On Wednesday, Jan. 13, Lt. Governor Brian Calley will join Agustin Arbulu, Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, to outline a new law designed to protect the right of access to public accommodations for individuals who use trained service animals.

The law will go into effect on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016.

The news conference will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, Jan. 13 on the 8th floor of MDCR’s Lansing office at 110 W. Michigan Avenue.

Joining the Lt. Governor and Director Arbulu will be individuals with their trained service animals, including the Lt. Governor’s brother Eric Calley.

Visuals include service animals wearing the State of Michigan Registered Service Animal Patch and posters for business owners to help educate the public and their own employees about the rights of individuals and their service animals to enter public accommodations.
