Detroit — At their meeting on Monday, Nov. 13, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission (the Commission) reconsidered a request from Equality Michigan, tabled at their September meeting, to issue an interpretive statement on whether the word “sex” in the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) can be interpreted to include gender identity and sexual orientation.
After taking up the request and discussing several options, Commissioners could not reach consensus on any single action. The Commission then unanimously voted to table the EQMI request a second time.
