MDCR Director James E. White Commends Washtenaw County Statement on Equity and Inclusion, Non-Discrimination Policy

LANSING, MI--Today, Michigan Department of Civil Rights Director James E. White issued the following response to a statement from the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners on equity and inclusion, and updates to the county's non-discrimination and anti-harassment policies.
"I applaud the decision by the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners to make a clear and public commitment to centering equity in the workings of the county. The Board statement is an important start, and when combined with the new non-discrimination policy, provides the groundwork for developing robust and detailed inclusion policies throughout county government."
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is charged with investigating and resolving discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws. It also provides information and services to businesses on diversity initiatives and equal employment law.
