Michigan Department of Civil Rights Hosts Civil Rights Summit in Novi

Lansing, MI – Today, the Department of Civil Rights is hosting the 2023 Civil Rights Summit at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI. Featuring the theme “The Impact of Discrimination on Health,” the event began at 9:00am and will end at 4:00pm. More than 350 educators, public servants, and civil rights advocates have gathered for the daylong discussion about pressing civil rights issues.

“Understanding the impact of discrimination on health can provide context for our fight against bias,” said Executive Director John E. Johnson, Jr. “This summit’s theme will help to drive equality forward by underlining the personal and social cost of prejudice.”

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is charged with investigating and resolving complaints of discrimination and working to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.
