Families and Teens

Suicidal thoughts and actions can impact families in many devastating ways. When a family member has died by suicide or is considering hurting themselves it can be difficult to know what to say and how to react. This is especially true when a teen is in crisis as suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24. Being able to recognize signs of concern in family members and knowing what to do can make a difference.

The State of Michigan Employee Service Program (ESP) can provide assistance to State of Michigan employees and their eligible family members during such difficult times. ESP counselors can provide families with supportive information and resources. If you or a family member has been impacted by suicide, you may contact the Employee Service Program at 1-800-521-1377.
