Secondary Traumatic Stress
Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) is the emotional and physical stress that can occur when an individual hears about the first-hand trauma of someone else. Individuals may have common stress reactions related to the indirect trauma or can sometimes re-experience their own personal traumas. This session will help you learn more about STS, the potential impact it can have at home and at work, and learn strategies for prevention. The session will also explore suggestions on reducing our own personal STS, with the option of taking a private self-assessment.
Objectives:
- Increase understanding of Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS)
- Gain insight into potential impact of STS (includes self-assessment)
- Learn methods for preventing and reducing STS and available resources
