Extreme weather to close live harness racing at Northville Downs Feb. 14; simulcast racing to continue
February 14, 2015
Detroit ? Northville Downs will cancel Saturday night's live harness racing due to severe cold weather conditions but will offer simulcast racing.
"The MGCB believes it's in the industry's best interests to cancel tonight's living racing because of the extreme weather," said Richard Kalm, MGCB executive director. "The safety of the drivers and horses is our key concern."
The National Weather Service forecasts near record lows for Southeast Michigan Saturday night and wind chills around 30 below zero.
Michigan's horse racing industry missed four racing days in the 2013 season due to poor weather conditions.
"The Michigan Gaming Control Board shall ensure the conduct of fair and honest gaming to protect the interests of the citizens of the State of Michigan."
