Detroit casinos' revenue and wagering taxes reported for August 2018

Detroit, Sept. 11, 2018 - The Detroit casinos reported $120.5 million in aggregate revenue during August, an 8.1 percent increase compared with August 2017 aggregate revenue and a fractional 0.9 percent increase from July 2018 results.  Year-to-date aggregate revenue rose 2.4 percent compared with the first eight months of 2017.

Compared with August 2017 results, monthly aggregate revenue increased at each casino. MGM revenue jumped 10 percent to $52.7 million. Motor City reported $39.8 million in revenue for a 3.8 percent increase. With $28 million in revenue, Greektown topped last August’s results by 11.1 percent.

Market shares for August were:

  • MGM, 44 percent
  • MotorCity, 33 percent
  • Greektown, 23 percent
  • During August, the three Detroit casinos paid $9.8 million in gaming taxes to the state of Michigan compared with $9 million paid during August 2017.

    The three Detroit casinos reported submitting $18.5 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit during August
