MGCB executes search warrant at Muskegon bar in illegal gambling investigation
August 19, 2026
DETROIT, Aug. 19, 2026 — The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), in cooperation with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and Muskegon Police Department, recently executed a search warrant at DJ’s Pub, located at 2064 Henry St. in Muskegon, as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected illegal gambling activity.
Investigators seized three suspected illegal slot-style gaming machines, $1,200 in gift cards used to pay out gambling winnings to patrons, $3,874 in suspected gambling proceeds, and related records from the business. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active.
The investigation began after the MGCB received a tip in January alleging that DJ’s Pub was operating unlicensed gaming machines and paying out winnings in cash and gift cards. Investigators say they observed the machines in operation during multiple visits to the establishment over the following months.
DJ’s Pub, operated by Star 8, Inc., was previously the subject of a 2021 enforcement action by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, which found violations of the Michigan Liquor Control Code related to illegal gambling on the premises.
“Illegal gambling machines operate with no oversight, no consumer protections, and no accountability,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said. “When we receive credible information that a business is running unlicensed gaming devices, we act on it. This search warrant reflects our continued commitment to enforcing Michigan’s gaming laws and holding accountable those who choose to operate outside them.”
Illegal gambling machines operate outside the regulatory and consumer protections required of licensed gaming in Michigan. The MGCB urges anyone with information about suspected illegal gambling activity to report it by calling the 24-hour tipline at 1-888-314-2682, or by sending a message (not anonymous) to MIGamblingTip@michigan.gov. Citizens who wish to send an email but prefer to remain anonymous can indicate this request in the body of the email. Written tips can also be submitted anonymously to the MGCB using the online form found under the report illegal or suspicious gambling activity link in the Illegal Gambling Resources section of the agency’s website at Michigan.gov/MGCB.
This matter remains under investigation. As with any investigation, all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
