Jaleelah Ahmed is a distinguished educator and community leader known for her transformative impact on education and community development. She led a school recognized by the Michigan Department of Education as a "Reward School" and, as the Director of Multilingual Learners, helped her district achieve growth results that exceeded county and state averages. The
Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has recognized her successful innovative programs for parents and students. As the superintendent of Hamtramck Public Schools, she is deeply committed to enhancing the infrastructure for students and staff, ensuring ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds were used to implement critical infrastructural improvements, including new HVAC systems, windows, and significant renovations across the district. These efforts have significantly improved the learning environment for students and staff alike. In addition to her practical experience, Jaleelah Ahmed has completed coursework in a dual concentration in Curriculum and Education Leadership at the University of
Michigan-Dearborn, and she holds multiple Michigan state certifications in Reading Specialist, ESL (English as a Second Language), Educational Leadership, and English. Beyond education, Ahmed’s community involvement is extensive. She served as Executive Director of the Yemeni American Committee, focusing on community betterment through education, health, and wellness initiatives. She also contributed to the Detroit Friendship House as a board member, where she helped write grants to support women’s empowerment and literacy programs.
