There are two major classes of firefighting foam: Class A and Class B. Class B is also called Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) and is usually created using PFAS. It is a highly effective foam used for fighting high-hazard flammable liquid fires, like gasoline, oil, and jet fuel.

Michigan Tube Division is located at 6400 Love Road and occupies approximately 4.5 acres of land. Historic operation on-site included tooling, die casting, plating, and electroplating activities. Due to these historic activities, PFAS sampling was conducted on and off site in 2023. The highest groundwater sampling result was 52.97 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt).
The groundwater generally flows to the west towards an unnamed drain.

The city of Eau Claire provides municipal water to their residents. EGLE, DHHS, and local health have evaluated residential wells in Eau Claire near the site, and the liable party has been asked to sample nearby residential wells.
EGLE will request that the liable party conduct additional soil and groundwater investigation to delineate the extent of PFAS contamination.
