PFAS Sites and Areas of Interest
PFAS Sites and Areas of Interest
In effort to better organize the sites that are being investigated for PFAS, on this page you will find two categories of investigations: PFAS Sites and Area of Interest.
PFAS Sites:
As of March 2021, a PFAS site is defined as a property where EGLE has a valid groundwater monitoring well sample result that exceeds one or more of Michigan's seven PFAS groundwater cleanup criteria, and based on data, EGLE has determined the property is the location of the source of PFAS contamination (e.g., fire training area where PFAS-containing foam was used).
Area of Interest (AOI):
Is an area being investigated due to the potential for PFAS contamination to be affecting residential wells for which a source has not been determined. AOIs will be created based on data showing the potential for human exposure, which may also generate significant public interest.
MPART PFAS Geographic Information System
This app features several datasets as part of Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART)'s efforts:
- PFAS Sites (official list of PFAS sites in Michigan)
- PFAS Surface Water Sampling (PFAS concentrations in surface water samples collected by EGLE)
- Public Water Supply Hexbins and Results Table (PFAS concentrations in municipal drinking water samples collected through two sampling efforts:
- EGLE’s statewide PFAS survey, which tested supplies between 2018 and 2020, prior to Michigan’s PFAS maximum contaminant levels (MCLs), and
- PFAS MCL compliance monitoring results under Michigan’s Safe Drinking Water Act. (2020 – present)
Use the interactive table below to find the site you're looking for. You can use the search box to find keywords, city or county names, or even zip codes. Each column in the table is able to be sorted -- simply click or tap on the column header to sort it alphabetically or reverse-alphabetically. For the full site summary, click or tap the link in the 'Hyperlink' column.
"Residential Wells Sampled" Key:
- Yes - residential wells have been sampled or will be sampled.
- No - Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), EGLE, and local health department (LHD) staff have determined that there are no residential wells in need of sampling at this time.
- TBD - MDHHS, EGLE, and LHD staff are evaluating well records and other information to determine if residential well sampling is needed.
- N/A - not applicable because all nearby residents are on municipal water.
