Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions 

  

LANSING, Mich. - Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development, Michigan Board of Dentistry, Farm Produce Insurance Authority Board of Directors, Michigan Women's Commission, State Teacher Tenure Commission, and the Michigan Veterans' Memorial Park Commission. 

 

Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development 

 

Andrew W. Chae, of Detroit, is the owner of Fisheye Farms, an urban farm that produces diverse specialty crops including mesclun mixes, eggplant, cabbage, and tomatoes. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from DePaul University. Mr. Chae is appointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Cheryl Kobernik. 

 

The Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development provides oversight and executive direction for the programs of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and approves the rules and regulations the department promulgates.   

   

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.    

 

Michigan Board of Dentistry  

 

Raymond DeWitt, Ed.D., of Sault Ste Marie, is an assistant professor of mathematics at Lake Superior State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Mathematics from Montana State University and a Doctor of Education from the University of Wyoming. Dr. DeWitt is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2025. He succeeds Joshua Goodrich whose term expired June 30, 2021.  

 

Jennifer R. Fuller, DDS, of Bloomfield, is a dentist and the owner of Fuller General Dentistry. She holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan and she studied advanced general dentistry at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Fuller is appointed to represent dentists for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2025. She succeeds Patricia Roels whose term expired June 30, 2021.  

 

Mark M. Johnston, DDS, of Lansing, is a dentist and the owner of Mark M. Johnston, DDS. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in PreMed and Sociology from Dartmouth College and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan. Dr. Johnston is reappointed to represent dentists for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2025.  

 

Craig Spangler, DDS, of Bloomfield Hills, is a dentist and owner of Craig C. Spangler, DDS, PC. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan. Dr. Spangler is appointed to fill a new seat representing dentists for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2023.   

 

Dawn M. Strehl, of East Jordan, is the regional oral health coordinator for the Health Department of Northwest Michigan. She holds an Associate of Arts in Dental Hygiene from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Ms. Strehl is appointed to represent dental hygienists for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2025. She succeeds Kathleen Inman whose term expired June 30, 2021.  

 

The Michigan Board of Dentistry was formed to regulate the practice of dentistry and dental hygiene, authorize dental assistants, and certify specialists in the fields of orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and oral pathology.      

 

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. 

 

Farm Produce Insurance Authority Board of Directors 

 

William B. Willson, of Perry, is the general operations manager of Maple Front Farms. He is a board member for the Shiawassee County Farm Bureau and he holds a certificate in agriculture business management from Michigan State University Institute of Agricultural Technology. Mr. Willson is reappointed to represent producers from the largest Michigan organization representing general farm interests in Michigan. He will serve for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring June 20, 2024. 

 

The Michigan Farm Produce Insurance Authority is a ten-member board representing farmers, grain industry, and banking interests. The Authority has the responsibility of establishing, administering, and promoting the Farm Produce Insurance Fund.

Michigan Women's Commission 

 

Tamara Faber-Doty, of Dexter, if the chief digital officer and vice president of technology for CMS Energy Corporation. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University. Ms. Faber-Doty is appointed for a term commencing July 16, 2021 and expiring July 15, 2024. She succeeds Catherine Hendrian whose term expires July 15, 2021. 

 

Karin Hopman, of Rockford, is the recorder and finance director for UFCW Local 951 and the treasurer for the UFCW Local 951 Foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Calvin College and a Master of Business Administration from Western Michigan University. Ms. Hopman is appointed for a term commencing July 16, 2021 and expiring July 15, 2024. She succeeds Deidre Lambert-Bounds whose term expires July 15, 2021. 

 

Katie F. Horvath, of Traverse City, is the chief marketing officer for Aunalytics. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School. Ms. Horvath is appointed for a term commencing July 16, 2021 and expiring July 15, 2024. She succeeds Margaret Wheeler Derrer whose term expires July 15, 2021. 

 

Tracy Joshua, DMEL, of Battle Creek, is the vice president of external supply chain for Kellogg Company. She holds a Doctor of Management Executive Leadership from Walsh College, Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Global Supply Chain from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Master of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Arts in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University. Dr. Joshua is appointed for a term commencing July 16, 2021 and expiring July 15, 2024. She succeeds Alisha Meneely whose term expires July 15, 2021. 

 

Kelli L. Saunders, of Byron Center, is a senior executive specialist for the Edward Lowe Foundation. Ms. Saunders previously served as chief of staff for former Lt. Gov. Brian Calley. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Aquinas College. Ms. Saunders is reappointed for a term commencing July 16, 2021 and expiring July 15, 2024. 

 

Sabala R. Mandava, M.D., of Bloomfield Hills, is a senior staff radiologist and director of the Division of Breast Imaging at Henry Ford Hospital. She earned her medical degree from the Guntar Medical College in India and served her internship with Hurley Medical Center, residency in diagnostic radiology at Michigan State University, and fellowship in women's imaging at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Mandava was appointed to the Commission in July 2020. The Governor has designated Dr. Mandava to serve as vice-chair of the Commission.  

 

The Michigan Women's Commission was created by statute in 1968. The Commission's duties include reviewing the status of women in Michigan, directing attention to critical problems confronting women, and recognizing women's accomplishments and contributions to Michigan. 

 

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. Chair and vice chair designations are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.  

 

State Teacher Tenure Commission 

 

Michelle Fecteau, of Detroit, is the executive director of the American Association of University Professors - American Federation of Teachers Local 6075 at Wayne State University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Employment Relations and Political Science and a Master of Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University. Ms. Fecteau is appointed to represent a person who is not a member of a board of education or a teacher, for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring August 31, 2023. She succeeds Michelle Richard who has resigned. 

 

The State Teacher Tenure Commission acts as a board of review for all cases appealed from the decision of a controlling board. 

 

This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.  

 

Michigan Veterans' Memorial Park Commission 

 

Andrew M. Cosgrove, of Grand Ledge, is the director of the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs for Lansing Community College. He served with the Michigan Army National Guard and he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Michigan State University. Mr. Cosgrove is reappointed for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring December 18, 2022. 

 

Danny Craig, of Detroit, is retired from AFSCME Council 25 where he served as the staff representative and the 36th District Court where he served as a court clerk. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and holds an associate's degree from Wayne County Community College. Mr. Craig is reappointed for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring December 18, 2023. 

 

Gary C. Quinn, of East Lansing, is retired from Kendall Electric where he worked as a sales manager. He is a veteran of the United State Navy Reserve. Mr. Quinn is reappointed for a term commencing July 7, 2021 and expiring December 18, 2022. 

 

The Michigan Veterans' Memorial Park Commission advises on the development, management, and maintenance of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Park in Lansing, the operation of programs exclusive to the park, and the security services and enforcement of rules for the care and preservation of the park.
