Gov. Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions 

  

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer today announced the following appointments to the Environmental Rules Review Committee, Large Carnivore Breeding Advisory Council, Michigan Board of Architects, Michigan Board of Professional Engineers, and State Board of Professional Surveyors. 

 

Environmental Rules Review Committee 

Jeremy Orr of Detroit, is an attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council.  Mr. Orr is appointed to succeed James Clift to represent a statewide environmental organization for a term expiring October 4, 2020. 

 

The Environmental Rules Review Committee was created as an independent body within the Office of Performance and Transformation to oversee all rule-making of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. 

 

The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. 

 

Large Carnivore Breeding Advisory Committee 

Ronald Kagan of Royal Oak, is the chief executive officer of the Detroit Zoological Society.  Mr. Kagan is appointed to represent public zoos for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor. 

 

Diane Thompson of Marshall, is the president and chief executive officer of the Binder Park Zoo.  Ms. Thompson is appointed to represent private zoos for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 

 

This council will create a licensing body for zoos to grant permits for the breeding of large carnivores. 

 

These appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. 

 

Michigan Board of Architects 

Jennifer R. Myers of Troy, is an architectural engineer for Oakland County Parks and Recreations and the owner and president of Classic Automotive Repair.  Ms. Myers is appointed to succeed Kenneth Van Tine to represent architects for a term expiring March 31, 2023. 

 

Deveron Q. Sanders of Flint, is a project engineer and construction manager for ROWE Professional Services Company.  Mr. Sanders is appointed to succeed Troy R. Naperala to represent the Board of Professional Engineers for a term expiring March 31, 2023. 

 

The Michigan Board of Architects regulates the practice of architecture. The practice of architecture is defined as “professional services, such as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design, review of materials and completed phases of work in construction, alteration or repair in connection with a public or private structure, building, equipment, works or project, when the professional service requires the application of a principle of architecture or architectural design.” 

 

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. 

 

Michigan Board of Professional Engineers 

Deveron Q. Sanders of Flint, is a project engineer and construction manager for ROWE Professional Services Company.  Mr. Sanders is appointed to succeed Troy R. Naperala to represent professional engineers for a term expiring March 31, 2023. 

 

The Michigan Board of Professional Engineers was created to license and regulate the practice of professional engineering in Michigan. Article 20 defines professional engineering as professional services, such as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design or review of material and completed phases of work in construction, alteration or repair in connection with a public or private utility, structure, building, machine, equipment, process, work or project when the professional service requires the application of engineering principles or data. The Board works with LARA to oversee the practice of licensed professional engineers. 

 

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. 

 

State Board of Professional Surveyors 

James D. Hollandsworth of Riverview, is an engineering and surveying manager with Hennessey Engineers, Inc.  Mr. Hollandsworth is appointed to succeed Roland Brand to represent professional surveyors for a term expiring March 31, 2023. 

 

Jennifer R. Myers of Troy, is an architectural engineer for Oakland County Parks and Recreations and the owner and president of Classic Automotive Repair.  Ms. Myers is appointed to succeed Kenneth Van Tine to represent the Michigan Board of Architects for a term expiring March 31, 2023. 

 

The Board of Professional Surveyors was created to license and regulate the practice of land surveying in Michigan. Article 20 defines a professional surveyor as a person who by reason of knowledge of law, mathematics, physical sciences, and techniques of measuring land acquired by professional education and practical experience is qualified to engage in the practice of professional surveying. The Board works with LARA to oversee the practice of professional surveyors.
