Gov. Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions
LANSING, Mich. -- Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced the following appointments to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission, Advisory Board for the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center for Homeland Security, and Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs:
Mackinac Island State Park Commission
Phillip Pierce, a Democrat of Grosse Pointe Shores, is a managing member of Pierce, Monroe & Associates, LLC. and chairman of the Chandler Park Conservancy Board of Directors. Mr. Pierce is appointed to succeed Chuck Yob who resigned April 22, 2019, for a term expiring April 12, 2023.
The Mackinac Island State Park Commission was formed in 1895 and is responsible for all aspects of managing Mackinac State Historic Parks. The Commission retains and exercises its authority and responsibility for developing the mission, goals, policies, objectives and direction for the unique properties under its jurisdiction.
This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
Advisory Board for the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center for Homeland Security
Brian Slocum, of Novi, is the vice president of operations for ITC Holdings and a member of the Board of Directors of Crossroads Farm rural youth ministry. Mr. Slocum is appointed to succeed Michael Arthur Bruggeman whose term expired April 11, 2019, to represent residents of the state not connected to law enforcement, for a term expiring April 11, 2023.
Thomas L. Reich, of Eaton Rapids, is the Sheriff of Eaton County, vice president of the Lansing Area Safety Council, and a board member of the Housing Services of Mid-Michigan. Sheriff Reich is reappointed to represent Michigan Sheriff’s Association for a term expiring April 11, 2023.
The Advisory Board for the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center for Homeland Security shall collect, evaluate, collate, and analyze information and intelligence and then, as appropriate, disseminate this information and intelligence to the proper public safety agencies so that any threat of terrorism or criminal activity will be successfully identified and addressed.
These appointments are not subject to the Advice and Consent of the Senate.
Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs
John D. Daoud, of Troy, is the director of human resources at the Arab American and Chaldean Council. Mr. Daoud is appointed to succeed Haifa Fakhouri whose term expired April 19, 2019, for a term expiring April 19, 2023.
Rihan Issa, of Saginaw, is the Michigan coordinator for Campus Vote Project and an ACCESS Community Advisory Board member. Ms. Issa is appointed to succeed Fadwa Hammoud who resigned effective May 9, 2019, for a term expiring April 19, 2022.
Nadine Yousif Kalasho, of West Bloomfield, is the president and chief executive officer of CODE Legal Aid, a non-profit organization. Ms. Kalasho is appointed to succeed Abe Munfakh whose term expired April 19, 2019, for a term expiring April 19, 2023.
Fay Beydoun, of Dearborn, is the executive director of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Beydoun is reappointed for a term expiring April 19, 2023.
Lina Hourani-Harajli, of Dearborn, is the chief operating officer of the Arab Community Center for Economic & Social Services (ACCESS). Ms. Hourani-Harajli is reappointed for a term expiring April 19, 2023.
Nabeel R. Obeid, of Ann Arbor, is an assistant professor of surgery at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Obeid is reappointed for a term expiring April 19, 2023.
The Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs works to monitor, evaluate, and provide recommendations to the Governor and Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs regarding issues facing the Middle Eastern American Community. The Commission works to enhance economic opportunity, prevent discrimination, and spread awareness of Middle Eastern American culture.
These appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
