Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions
LANSING, Mich. - Today, Governor Whitmer announced appointments to the Child Lead Exposure Elimination Commission, Advisory Council on Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing, Michigan Interagency Council on Homelessness, Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board, and Michigan PreK-12 Literacy Commission.
Child Lead Exposure Elimination Commission
Angela Hood-Beaugard, of Flint, is the executive director of the Flint and Genesee Literacy Network. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Business Administration from Northwood University. Mrs. Hood-Beaugard is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring December 15, 2023. She succeeds the late Danielle Brown.
Kathy R. Moore, of Twin Lake, is the health officer for Muskegon County. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Muskegon Community College and a graduate certificate from the Michigan Community Health Leadership Institute. Ms. Moore is appointed to represent local health departments for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring December 15, 2021. She succeeds Bill Ridella who has resigned.
This Child Lead Exposure Elimination Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the Governor and the Director of MDHHS and provides guidance regarding the state's coordination of all efforts to eliminate child lead exposure throughout the state. The Commission works with the previous temporary Child Lead Poisoning Elimination Board and stakeholders to prioritize the recommendations made in their 2016 Report.

Advisory Council on Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing
Louis Bailey, of Detroit, is an account executive at U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration from Robert Morris University. Mr. Bailey is reappointed to represent deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing persons for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring January 18, 2024.
Kimberly L. Bush, of Plymouth, is the sales and marketing manager for Lafayette Market Events & Catering. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Argumentation & Advocacy Communications and Political Science from Adrian College. Ms. Bush is appointed to represent individuals knowledgeable in the field of deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing matters for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring January 18, 2024. She succeeds Debbie Mitre-Smith whose term expired January 18, 2021.
Hannah Cluley, of Grand Rapids, is a merchandise planner for Meijer. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Grand Valley State University. Ms. Cluley is appointed to represent deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing persons for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring January 18, 2024. She succeeds KT Maviglia whose term expired January 18, 2021.
Jill A. Gaus, of Jackson, is an instructor for the interpreter program at Oakland Community College and Lansing Community College. She is a licensed practical nurse and studied at Lansing Community College. Ms. Gaus is reappointed to represent deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing persons for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring January 18, 2024. The Governor has designated Ms. Gaus to serve as Chair of the Council.
Matthew K. Stephens, of Ypsilanti, is a freelance photographer and graphic designer and a personal shopper for Meijer. He holds an Associate of Arts in Visual Communications Studies from the Rochester Institute of Technology National Institute for the Deaf and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Technology at Eastern Michigan University. Mr. Stephens is reappointed to represent deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing persons for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring January 18, 2024.
The Advisory Council on Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing serves to advise the Department of Civil Rights on matters pertaining to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing persons.

Michigan Interagency Council on Homelessness
Ryan B. Hertz, of Huntington Woods, is the president and CEO of Lighthouse MI. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Folklore and Ethnomusicology from Indiana University and a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University. Mr. Hertz is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring January 21, 2025. He succeeds Dennis Sturtevant whose term expired January 25, 2021.
The Michigan Interagency Council on Homelessness was designed to develop, adopt and update a 10-year plan to end homelessness. The 10-year plan shall include evidence-based improvements to programs and policies that will ensure services and housing are provided in an efficient, cost-effective, and productive manner. The plan shall be coordinated and tailored with the Federal Strategic Plan, "Opening Doors," to meet the needs of this state's homeless population.

Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board
Daniel R. Fountain, of Negaunee, is a member of the Negaunee Historical Society, Marquette Underwater Preserve Committee, and the Marquette Range Engineers Club. He holds an associate's degree in electronic technology from Northern Michigan University. Mr. Fountain is appointed to represent the Township of Negaunee for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring October 4, 2024. He succeeds Justin Carlson whose term expired October 4, 2020.
Karen L. Kasper, of Ishpeming, is the vice president of the Ishpeming Area Historical Society and a volunteer with the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives, the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center, and the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum. She holds a Bachelor of Science in English from Northern Michigan University. Ms. Kasper is appointed to represent the general public and residents of the Upper Peninsula for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring October 4, 2024. She succeeds Susan Hornbogen whose term expired October 4, 2020.
James R. Paquette, of Negaunee, is retired from Cleveland Cliffs where he worked as the senior staff employee development and training representative. Mr. Paquette recently served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Historical Society of Michigan and the Marquette Regional History Center & Museum. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Services from Northern Michigan University. Mr. Paquette is reappointed to represent the City of Negaunee for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring October 4, 2024.
The Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board advises the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment on policies, plans and programs concerning the Michigan Iron Industry Museum. The Board supports education programs and public use of the facility.

Michigan PreK-12 Literacy Commission
Gwendolyn M. McMillon, Ph.D., of Saginaw, is a professor of literacy at the Oakland University Department of Reading and Language Arts. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teacher Education and Social Policy from Michigan State University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan. Dr. McMillon is appointed to represent individuals submitted by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for a term commencing February 18, 2021 and expiring October 31, 2024. She succeeds Nadra Shami whose term expired October 31, 2020.
The Michigan PreK-12 Literacy Commission is housed within the Michigan Department of Education. The Commission advises and assists in matters relating to the assessment, professional development, education programming, socioeconomic challenges, best practices, collaboration, parental engagement, and teaching of literacy.
